A portion of our profits goes to young people's mental health.
For a lot of people, a coffee shop is their first job, and the years behind the bar are the years mental health is most fragile. Half of all lifelong mental health conditions start by age 14, and three quarters by 24. Kessler et al., Archives of General Psychiatry, 2005
Once Cortado makes a profit, a portion of it will go to programs that support young people's mental health for the long run: care in schools and communities, training for the adults around them, and services that stay open year after year rather than one-off campaigns.
How we'll keep this honest
- We'll name the organization here before the first gift, and agree the terms with them in writing first.
- Every gift will be listed on this page: when, how much, and to whom.
- Cortado isn't profitable yet, so nothing has been given so far. This page will say so until that changes.

Every staff screen works in English and Spanish.
Many of the people who clock in, count the milk and run the opening checklist speak Spanish first. The screens they use follow the language their phone is set to, and anyone can switch between English and Español with one tap. The choice stays on that phone, and the app's replies, like a wrong PIN or a double clock-in, come back in the same language.

- Whole rows and full-width buttons on staff screens, because they're used standing up, mid-shift.

- Staff need a phone camera and the shop PIN. No app, no account, no password.
- Adjustable display
- Text size, reduced motion, and light and dark modes in the owner app.
- Screen-reader labels
- Buttons and fields are labeled, and the page says which language it's in.
- Free for the smallest shops
- Counting stock stays free forever, so a shop doesn't have to afford software to start.
